Angel Gomes admits he had to make the tough decision to leave Manchester United as a youngster, but it was in part to improve as a player.
Lille midfielder Gomes was surprisingly one of four players never to be capped for England during the Nations League.
He joined United in 2006 as a six-year-old and rose through the ranks to become a first-team regular, playing just 46 minutes in the Premier League before moving to Lille in 2020.
However, the 24-year-old has impressed, helping Lille qualify for the Champions League this season and has recently earned his first senior England cap.
“When I left Manchester United I was thinking more about improving myself as a player and a person,” Gomes said.
“When I left, it was more for the idea to find myself, find myself as a player and, obviously, as a person going through the journey that I went through, I knew that eventually I’d be able to create a pathway for myself to be able to be in this position that I’m in now, ยูฟ่าเบท ” the 24-year-old midfielder said Wednesday.
“Through the journey I’ve been on, I finally realised that I could make my own way to be in this position.
“Leaving a club I’ve been at since I was six years old and going somewhere completely new was difficult for me personally. “
Since then it’s been difficult, but there have been many obstacles and difficult moments to overcome. But being here now makes it all worth it.”
